I personally loved the facepaint, and use it all the time - It looks amazing with Grenth's regalia dyed white, and some white hair - Don't see why people don't like matching!
And the cat ears, my only complaint is they are kind of small, and hard to notice with some hair styles - but I love them!

Would be nicer with cat whiskers and a little cat nose. But that would have been proppably to much work to ask the dev team.

This years festival hats are obliviously taken from anime. Any comparisons to real life or ghostbusters is a serious stretch.

IMO not a fan of this years "masks". But if others like them, good for them, I just won't use them.

To clarify, however, the cat ears do look pretty fitting on some female chars (and I am not a cat lover).

I do think its kind of obvious the ears aren't from the whole black cat origin…they aren't black, they are missing facepaint & tail, they're named "furr"-ocious…but if people like them more power to them.

I really don't get the goggles...i would have preferred bigger ghost buster esque ones but whatever.

I miss the actual "mask" part of the masks and hope they come back next year. What I really want though is a +1 stacking scar pattern: (

These really give off a mad-scientist/Ghostbusters vibe to them. I'm so glad ANet added something like these instead of another hat/mask that covers your whole head. I don't much care for the Asuran spectacles, so these are a definite improvement. I even went ahead and bought some new mix n' match armor to go with the goggles.

Thanks again for even more free stuff, Anet.

Now where is that dirigible when you need it?

They shoulda made two models for the ears, I'm sorry but they look awful on male characters, but great on female characters.

The goggles are meh, they don't look quite right/rushed into production.

There is a limit to how many traditional Halloween style masks you could do and the limit had pretty much reached.

I don't think they did Devil and Vampire but they did most of the other scary types.

Now we have moved on to Modern Halloween where the kids go out dressed in a variation of costumes.

I think various cultures and the need to sell a range of fancy dress costumes has lead to Spacemen Cowboys and Ballerinas as legitimate costume options.

The Ears will be used to customise characters appearance much as I will use the Lich facemask from the costume pack on some of my Characters.
Role on the next Easter for Bunny ears.

Some of us create exotic backgrounds for out characters and shudder at the use of Toon.

well my sister was a black cat MANY years for halloween---this was waaay back in the '70's LONG before anime hit the usa (unless you count speed racer)....so black cats and witches and pumpkins ARE part of american halloween.....not the goggles....

I am not a fan of either and yes I do watch anime but I do not acquaint the 2 together anymore than I did with the lady who was wearing the cat costume at a party a year or so ago (and no she was NOT anime related more like xxx rated --and no she was not wearing whiskers either on her face).....

I am glad they are still making 'hats' even though they have ceased to be hats many years ago----think I will go an put on my charr mask now------

Oh, am I the only one that mis-read this thread title as "Hurray for cat eaters"?

I'm the same way, I missed the first two halloweens and wintersday end events. I was around, saw the decorations, had my fun...but I never attended the finales and never got the hats.

I think it all just comes down to opinion. I personally think the scarecrow mask looked/looks incredibly lame on any character, and would take the ears or goggles over it any second.
they are either definitely related to their specific events or they're inspired by GW stuff...like the charr mask. The cat ears and googles aren't so clear-cut, especially considering the target playerbase.

Same here. I missed out on several simply because I didnt bother...including the first dragon mask, and the first year Halloween.

This is what I like to see, people need to also realize that they can not satisfy everyone at once, it's impossible. There will always be a group of people that dislike the hats.

You can claim that it's a halloween staple, but they didn't include the facepaint that is required to pull off a convincing cat costume. You can't dismiss the anime/weeaboo connection completely, just like I can't dismiss the halloween black cat staple completely. But which weighs more? That's the question, and it's at the heart of the complaints about it. If it wasn't an issue, there would be no complaints. The presence of valid complaints makes the argument valid and worthy of serious consideration, instead of just insulting the complainers saying they're "never happy". I was happy with the scarecrow mask when everyone else said it was lame. Same with the Lupine mask. I still have my Lupine mask on my warrior for her werewolf costume. (Primeval warrior armor lupine mask FTMFW. I might even dye the gloves red.)
They are cat ears big deal! Why does there always have to be psycho therapy for something as simple as this. Quit going on and on and on lol

They likable items I think. If you don't think so well /shrug

Hello, and welcome to the internet. There is no known correlation between the presence of complaints and a logical reason for complaints.

If you have been playing guild wars for more than 2 days, you will be painfully aware that no matter what happens in the game, people will complain about it. I challenge you to bring up a single instance of something either being added to the game or being changed in the game in which there were no complaints and no threads formed to rage on the addition/change.

The presence of complaints only indicates the presence of people who have access to keyboards and the internet, nothing else.

I like the ears. I'm not so excited about the goggles. But, I am glad some people enjoy them(I might throw them on my ranger for a while)The fact that they are accessories and not full masks is an improvement, imo. They make it much more likely to find use year round than just events. At least they arent as lame as the 2009 ice crowns. If you think the cat ears make a male warrior look fruity, just throw on a Snow Crystal Crest. I pray to dwayna Anet improves on this years wintersday hats.

As for the cat ears appealing to furries/anime fans. All I gotta say is thats a bonus. The cat ears are halloween related and if it apppeals to a few other genres all the better. Not to mention I seem to recall cat ears, or the like, being requested in years past.

EDIT:

O.O I want a Devil Horns now! Brilliant idea.

I dont think it has anything to do with competence. It has more to do with sales of the new costumes. If the free halloween costumes were just as good as the ones you buy. What would be the incentive to buy the costumes?

Sorrow's RED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GOing Furnace. Oh and guess what? It was a free addition. How about the Eternal Blade? Or Emerald Blade? Or Dryad Bow? Or Draconic Aegis? Or.....you get where I'm going here. There are plenty of examples of FREE content that has been added to the game that has not produced 50+ page threads about how they suck/aren't wanted/don't belong. I've participated in and been a strong part of a thread about cat ears and how they really just DON'T belong in Guild Wars for any reason. I'm also interested in knowing how many people saying it's not about Anime/Furry/Weeaboo culture in THIS thread posted up in THAT thread claiming they want them for their Anime/Furry/Weeaboo satiation.

The hypocrisy is already strong in THIS thread because most of the supporters of the cat ears have claimed that they're "cute" and they'll be wearing them on their characters full-time. Now, how ridiculous would you feel if you wore your Halloween Costume year-round? I don't think this is what they have in mind. They plan on making their characters resemble Anime cat-girls/boys and it has nothing to do with a "halloween costume" as they claim to defend their relevance to GW or Halloween.

These are my favorite halloween masks so far. They are a ton more usable than the other ones and they are free too. Sometimes simple is better.

I don't see what the fuss is or why people don't like them.

As far as I'm concerned, these 2 masks are the only lasting masks besides the pumpkin crown and freezie crown.
I've seen Zombie and Skeleton face paint used on really nice looking characters, I've used the Mummy Mask, Ice and Wreath crowns myself for actual play because they matched specific armor sets, and if I were around for last year's wintersday (don't know why I missed it ) I'd be using the ice shard crest quite often.
